The seventh staging of Varbergs Sommargiro

Welcome to the seventh staging of our annual summer cycling event, which starts and finishes in the charming town of Varberg on the south west coast of Sweden. Varberg is situated around one hour south of Gothenburg and three hours north of Copenhagen 

We have decided to limit the number of entrants to 1,000 cyclists this year, our philosophy is quality over quantity. Last year we moved the start to Societetsparken which turned out to be a very successful choice. It’s difficult to envisage or more beautiful place to begin an event, with the backdrop of a magnificent 800 year old fortress and Societets restaurant from the turn of the last century as a setting for the start and finish. The starting stretch along the coast is also an experience in itself. After completing the event, you arrive at the finishing line in Societetsparken and receive a fine medal and replenishing hot food. 

There are three different courses: 32 km (for standard bicycles and electric bicycles), 68 km and 110 km (both for racers and hybrids) as well as a separate category for high wheel (penny farthing) bicycles. Each route takes you through scenic and tranquil Swedish countryside, in the county of Halland, on very quiet roads. Varbergs Sommargiro has become a firm favourite and is attracting more and more cyclists. In our launch year of 2016 we attracted 387 cyclists. In 2019 over 800 cyclists took part. Make sure that you secure your place now, click on the links (”LOPPEN”) to enter!
